Chemical peels are techniques that have been used to improve the appearance of the skin, whether it’s on the face, the neck, or the hands. Chemical peels can treat damaged skin due to aging or other skin conditions. Vein Care Medical Center offers chemical peels that can treat acne scars and other abrasions, wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, crow’s feet, hyperpigmentation, melasma, sun damage, and a number of other conditions.
How chemical peels work
At Vein Care Medical Center a chemical solution will be applied to the skin, which will cause a reaction, inspiring the skin to exfoliate and, eventually, peel away to reveal fresh, new skin underneath. This regenerated skin in most cases is smoother, less wrinkled, and therefore more youthful-looking than the previous layer of skin.
Chemical peels generally fall into 3 different categories:
The Superficial Peel: Also called the “lunchtime peel” due to it’s little or no down time. Alpha-hydroxy acid or an alternative milder acid will be used which will penetrate no deeper than the outer layer of skin. The Superficial Chemical Peel will exfoliate the skin in the process. This treatment is generally utilized to improve mild skin discoloration and rough skin. The Superficial Peel can also be used to refresh the face, neck, chest and hands.
Medium peel: This type of chemical peel utilizes glycolic or trichloroacetic acid, which is applied to the face, neck, chest, and hands. This chemical peel will penetrate the outer and middle layers of the skin and remove previously damaged skin cells. This treatment can effectively improve age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, freckles, and other moderate skin discolorations. Like the superficial peel, the medium peel can also be used to smooth out rougher patches of skin and even treat certain precancerous skin growths (such as actinic keratosis).
Deep peel: this type of chemical peel utilizes trichloroacetic acid or phenol, which is applied to the skin to deeply penetrate the middle layer removing previously damaged skin cells. The deep peel chemical peel treatment can effectively remove moderate lines and wrinkles, freckles and other skin discoloration, age spots, and also shallow scars. Patients will often see a dramatic improvement in their skin appearance. The deep chemical peel is a procedure used on the face and only can be performed once at Vein Care Medical Center.
